About me…

Hi, my name is Gail, and Silver Dove Jewellery is my little shop.

A few years ago now, I was a nurse in the NHS, always busy, busy, busy. I loved my job, looking after people, helping them to get back on their feet, it really was as satisfying as you would imagine. It was however a high stress job with long hours and a lot of responsibility – but well worth it I thought…

My body sadly disagreed and shouted ‘enough is enough’. At first I thought I was just over doing it, that the tiredness and ill health would sort themselves out with a little rest, but over the next couple of years it became clear that I was suffering with CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).  To cut a long and painful story short, I ended up bed bound for the best part of two years, and am left unable to exert myself for any length of time without real consequences to my health.  CFS is a horrible condition, but I shan’t go on about it here – there are plenty of resources on the web if you are interested.

But, like I said, I had always been busy, busy, busy – not doing anything was driving me stir crazy.  I needed a project, something I could work on for a couple of minutes at a time, but that would be worth doing.  And that is when I started making jewellery – tiny things at first, because I had lost even the strength in my fingers due to the CFS – but bigger things would follow.  And they have – take a look around my shop and see what I am making now.

I still have to manage my time very carefully, so the more complex items I make are done over a number of sittings, but I can now take a complex piece of jewellery from initial design sketches through to a completed article.  The work is both a therapy and a passion, I am creating jewellery that I am proud of, and that I think you will love.

I love the experience of working with precious gems, stones and wires – feeling how they go together and how some stones suit some metals better than others, and I love to see people wearing my work.  Just as the stones ‘just fit’ with certain metals it is amazing that the finished items seem to ‘just fit’ certain people.  You for instance – take a look at my work – some of the pieces will be ‘ oh, that’s nice’ but one or two will be just right for you  – kind of a Goldilocks experience but with jewellery instead of porridge (never get those two mixed up, it’s not a good look).

Do look around – I would be so happy if you loved my work as much as I do, and if you want to keep in touch I have a Facebook page where I chat a bit more informally – I would love to hear from you.

See you soon

Gail.
